Artist, Shannon Myers: “It’s more than art… it’s a whimsical imagination at work”

November 2015 – February 2016

Born in Seoul, Korea, Shannon’s early years were spent in Anchorage, AK prior to moving to Poplar Bluff, MO. After high school, she attended Southeast Missouri State University before making her home in Piedmont, MO where she lives today with her beautiful daughter, while working for an area Software Company.

Although Shannon has always considered herself an appreciator of Art, it wasn’t until just two years ago that through the encouragement of a fellow artist that she was inspired to pick up a canvas and begin creating her own work. Her drawings are considered “Cartoon Impressionism,” while her painting reflects a wide range of Expression, Energy and Freedom in an Abstract form. When asked “who” or “what” has inspired her work, Shannon responds: “The sources for my inspiration are many. I have great admiration for Impressionism, and the acclaimed artists associated with that era.” When asked what her ultimate compliment would be from those viewing her work, Shannon said: I would like the experience to begin with a reaction; for without that it would mean nothing. Then closely following their reaction, I would like to know that the piece triggered an emotion of some kind, but hopefully something happy, fun and exciting. Most of all, says Myers, I want my work to be an inspiration to others, as unless we are inspired by our environment, we cease to thrive and prosper mentally and physically.

In November of 2014, Shannon placed 3rd in the “61st PBAG Regional Art Exhibition” for her Mixed Media drawing entitled Another Dimension. As a means of giving back and helping support one of her personal causes, the artist donated several pieces of her work that were auctioned during the “Arts for Animals” benefit this past spring. Shannon is a member of the Poplar Bluff Artist Guild, and CAAW (The Cultural Arts Alliance of Wayne County and the Ozark Region). In addition to these two professional memberships, Shannon attends the Highland Drive Church of Christ in Poplar Bluff.

Along with this four month exhibit at The Gallery in Marquand, Shannon has three pieces assigned to an exhibit at the Margaret Harwell Museum in Poplar Bluff (exhibit runs from Nov. 8 – Dec. 20). The artist welcomes commissioned pieces, will participate in art exchanges and can be reached via email at sunshinealldaylong@hotmail.com You can view Shannon’s work at The Gallery in Marquand during regular gallery hours on Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 12:00 – 4:00, or by special appointment by calling 573-783-5609.
